Pros And Cons Of Renewable Energy - 1532 Words

The United States has used fossil fuels for electricity generation ever since the Industrial Revolution, which occurred nearly 250 years ago. It should not, therefore, be a surprise that in the recent past few years, new sources of generating clean and affordable energy have been found. This energy is formed from renewable energy sources. However, although renewable energy is an important step in hindering the impacts of climate change, there are still many who do not support government subsidies towards this burgeoning business. Instead, some groups believe that the support of renewable energy should be left to the free market. In fact, it will not only benefit the national economy, but also the economy of the land it is built on. Other than these three forms of renewable energy, there is also geothermal energy. Geothermal energy is produced from the slow decay of radioactive particles in the Earth’s core and accounts for 0.4% of the US’ total electricity generation (â€Å"Use of†). This form of energy is relatively stable, as it is dependent on the Earth, and not the wind or sun. However, when geothermal is extracted from the ground, it can lead to the release of harmful gases and harm the environment. Last but not least, there is solar energy. Solar energy is energy collected from the sun, and is the source of 1% of the electricity generated in the U.S. (â€Å"Solar Explained†). Although there have been arguments against solar energy because of its dependency on the weather, the fact that solar cells can be easily used in buildings and thus lower electricity bills are a main advantage of this type of energy. These five types of renewable energy make up the renewable energy market in the United S tates. When the word â€Å"market† comes up, people often imagine a location where goods are sold and bought.
